Dreamscaper Original Soundtrack released today!

dscover.jpg

I’ve been scrambling to get the Dreamscaper soundtrack ready. I was honestly not prepared for the number of requests for a soundtrack release that rolled in this past week, though it warmed my heart to receive them. So here it is! An hour’s worth of music directly from the beautiful and now popular (Very Positive rated on Steam, at 95%!) game. I’m so happy to be able to share it with you after two years of writing.

It’s coming to all storefronts and streaming platforms in the coming days. And, very soon, it’s also coming to Steam as a soundtrack as well as a game+soundtrack bundle!

Here’s where you can buy and listen as of now:

Apple Music
Spotify
Bandcamp
Several more storefronts

In the coming weeks I’m going to post a full-blown liner notes and soundtrack explainer here on my website. This one is ripe with good stories!

As always, thank you so much for your support. It means the world to me.

Dreamscaper is out now!

I'm thrilled to announce that Dreamscaper is now available. To set a dream to music over these past couple of years has been...well, like a dream. I poured my heart into this soundtrack just as much as the rest of the team did into the game. I think the end result is something very special. But I honestly had a good idea it would be special from the outset.

A game about battling inner demons inside a dreamscape sounded like a…well, dream come true for any music maker. Okay — I’ll stop that. But know it really was like being in my own sort of dreamscape being able to be completely free to create and explore what this game’s world would sound like. It ended up being a dynamic soundtrack, with music that dreamily morphs between a calm, exploratory lull up to a full-on nightmare’s pace. As main character Cassidy struggles with inner demons and memories I did my best to express that all through music too. This ended up really pushing my boundaries and I’m very happy with where I was able to take it all.

It’s best if you just hear and see it for yourself. This is probably the proudest I’ve ever been of something I’ve worked on. I suppose you only really feel that way when your self expression comes through loud and clear. I feel lucky to have gotten there.

Of course, we all hope this game does well after the years of work that went into it. But I was telling the team last night that somehow I have this strange sort of calm, resounding peace about Dreamscaper. No nerves at all. Like a warm memory that everyone gets to share in.

Please check it out. Also, check out our amazing launch trailer, right above! Creating the music for that was a thrill!

I wrote more music for Nintendo!

I'm pleased to share that had the great honor of composing even more music for Nintendo this year! I'm extremely honored to continue my work for them. Young me would have never believed I’d ever have this opportunity!

Here's a first peek at some of it in Nintendo Minute, a show that I also composed the theme song and jingle for. Listen for a new background loop (let's call it a level song) packed with tons of Easter eggs as well as a new end card. You'll hear more as it comes down the line!

0020448035_10.jpg

I’m very, very pleased to share this news today!

First, Wizard of Legend is now released in physical form on PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch. I’m thrilled to finally have a copy I can hold and keep of this wonderful game that changed my life. If you’d like your own copy you can order one here.

I’m happy to finally announce a premium physical edition of the Wizard of Legend soundtrack, releasing alongside the physical game! It’s 2 discs (complete soundtrack and piano album) in a gorgeous slip case, with bonus music AND a 20-page booklet with interviews and background. This is in response to popular demand. You can order it here or on Bandcamp.

But that’s not all! Piano Collections Wizard of Legend gets its own sheet music book. This beautiful book contains all of the piano arrangements from the album as well as photos and commentary. It ships this August in limited quantities in physical form and is also available in downloadable form.

What a great day!

Prescription for Sleep: Wizard of Legend released today

a3704894108_10.jpg

I'm very pleased to be able to share with you Prescription for Sleep: Wizard of Legend. This album releases on the 2-year anniversary of Wizard of Legend's release and the 6-year anniversary of this Billboard-charting album series. Norihiko Hibino (Metal Gear series) and AYAKI (Etrian Odyssey) make magic with my tunes, perfect lullabies to sleep, relax, and study to.

Wait until you hear "Arcane Refuge" -- it's so beautiful! “Freiya’s Cage” also blows my mind.

As always, thank you for listening! This is on Bandcamp and coming to all digital and streaming platforms very soon!

Dreamscaper: Prologue is out and it's a smash hit!

Screen Shot 2020-04-11 at 11.14.13 AM.png

I’m proud to share that Dreamscaper: Prologue is out and that the reception has been fantastic. Dreamscaper is a beautiful, dreamy action game from Afterburner Studios, and I’ve been writing music for it over the past year or so. This prologue gives players an opportunity to play the first 4-6 hours of the game as a sort of preview of our full release later this year.

The reception has been overwhelming! We hit the front page of Steam and topped several of the charts from the first day! And as of now, just three days later we’re nearing 500 “Very Positive” reviews on Steam alone. Tens of thousands continue to play and the feedback has been overwhelming and very, very encouraging.

And the things said about my soundtrack so far have made my heart soar. I’m so happy.

I’d love nothing more than for you to check it out yourself! Oh, and the best part? It’ll cost you absolutely nothing.

Piano Collections WIZARD OF LEGEND album released!

a4123543387_10.jpg

Today marks the release of something I'm VERY excited about: Piano Collections Wizard of Legend. AYAKI (Etrian Odyssey, Persona Q, others) arranged and performed 12 incredible, powerful, moving pieces from my soundtrack. I cried a few times on first listen. Honestly I love this album so much that getting to this point in my life and career has all been worth it.

If you've spent any time in the dungeons this album will thrill you. And if you haven't, well, it's a wonderful listen still.

Amazing talent made this album as well!
Credits:
Piano/arrangement/performance: AYAKI
Recording/Mixing: Norihiko Hibino
Mastering: Jett Galindo at The Bakery

I'm thrilled to share this amazing album with you! Please listen! It’s out now on Bandcamp and is coming to more platforms very soon.

And actually, today’s a double header (I don’t play sports so I don't really know what that means). The complete soundtrack to Wizard of Legend is now available! Timed with the release of the Wizard of Legend Thunder Keep expansion this week, WIZARD OF LEGEND (The Complete Soundtrack) is also available today. It includes all of the new pieces from the expansions Sky Palace and Thundering Keep, including the much requested trailer songs. Please enjoy!

Sparklite Original Soundtrack available for preorder now!

EITYHsaXsAE6W9o.jpg

YAY! You can preorder my soundtrack for Sparklite right now! After four years of development and a year of yours truly writing music for it I’m so excited for this game to come out! It releases on all platforms on Nov 14 but the soundtrack comes early, dropping Nov 7. Those that preorder will save some money. Also, on launch day beautiful full-color digital liner notes for the soundtrack unlock as well.

But I'd say don't listen until you play the game for full effect -- one of the few times I'd say this.

And it’s not too late to preorder a physical version of Sparklite as well! Look at this lovely thing!

Out Now: The Long Return

a0122167387_10.jpg

Today marks the release of my latest soundtrack for a lovely upcoming game called The Long Return. It’s a gorgeous puzzle adventure that tells the story of an orphaned cub. You follow along as he retraces his steps through the last journey he took with his mother. It’s…emotional. And hopefully you hear that in my score.

On the personal side this project came along at a time where I was really feeling the need to express myself musically. I’m lucky to get to create music for games everyday but sometimes you just have that need to go all out into your own direction. Developer Max Nielsen let me do exactly that and I’ll forever be grateful for the opportunity. Being able to pour my heart into this meant so much to me. I hope you hear that in it too.

Anyway, it’s out now! On Bandcamp, iTunes, on Spotify, and really everywhere else. I would love it if you gave it a listen. It’s probably my most personal work yet so it would mean a lot to me.

I…sorry. I wasn’t telling you to. More like asking enthusiastically. I’m super excited.

The soundtrack to the brand new Arc System Works and WayForward collaboration River City Girls is up for preorder right now! This soundtrack was an awesome tag team effort between Megan McDuffee, Chipzel, Cristina Vee, Nathan Sharp, and myself. And if you missed it, River City Girls is a continuation of the classic River City (Kunio-kun) franchise. BARF! It comes out on all platforms on September 5!

Dreamscaper composing process...and a super hot Kickstarter!

4fc92bd3de0316a1f4b15450b4123791_original.jpg

We’re only into day two of Dreamscaper’s Kickstarter and it’s 75% funded! I’ve been working on this for a year now so seeing the support and feedback this past couple of days has been amazing. I’ve dreamed of a soundtrack I could dump my heart into and this is definitely it. A demo has been released alongside the Kickstarter and it’s a very meaty one with two levels, bosses, tons of powerups and options, and lots of my music.

Speaking of: The latest update on the Kickstarter today is a deep dive into my musical process for the Dreamscaper soundtrack. It took us some time but we came up with a musical soundscape that rides a wavy line between dream and nightmare. In the feature I get into some of the musical approaches I took to get this kind of sound. Plenty of audio examples are included. I’d love it if you’d give it a read.

Mid-summer update

sparklitefeature-747x309.jpg

It’s hot, isn’t it? I wouldn’t know because I never go outside.

Hardcore Gamer interviewed me on my upcoming soundtrack for Sparklite. In it I kinda spill the beans on how the score is...well, it's definitely not a modern style score. You can see what I mean by that here.

And last week at San Diego Comic-Con I sat down with Shacknews to talk shop.

Finally, Helvetii, a beautiful hand-drawn 2D action game I’ve been working on for a couple of years just hit Kickstarter yesterday with an excellent start. I hope we can get this one going because I had the pleasure of working with Emi Evans (Nier series) on it. You can check it out and hear samples of my soundtrack here.

Sparklite gets physical, gets a Signature Edition, includes my soundtrack!

Ah the soundtrack art is so cute!

Ah the soundtrack art is so cute!

I’m very happy to share that Sparklite, a beautiful roguelike adventure game by Red Blue Games, is getting a physical release this October on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch. I’ve been having a blast writing a GameCube-style score for it this past year. And that score comes with the newly announced Sparklite Signature Edition. A copy of the game, a signature sleeve and box, a Nano Block figure, a numbered certificate, and a copy of my soundtrack will be included. Preorders go live this Friday at Signature Edition Games.

As for details on the soundtrack release, stay tuned!

Spring update!

I’ve been busy on lots of new games and projects in 2019 (more news on those soon!), but I wanted to share some of what’s been announced while I’ve been working.

The Long Return is a beautiful puzzle adventure title that is coming to PC later this year. The trailer above showcases some of the pieces I’ve written for this soundtrack. I wanted to write the prettiest, most moving soundtrack I could to this lovely game. If that sounds like something you’d be interested in, please wishlist the game on Steam and stay tuned!

Medusa and Her Lover was released on PlayStation 4/PSVR in Japan this month. It’s a moving, emotionally weighty VR adventure where Medusa journeys with her lover. It’s made quite an impression on VR fans already! I had the honor of composing the score alongside Noisycroak. It’s out now in Japan and I have it on good authority that it’s coming westward later on.

Wizard of Legend got an update! Sky Palace adds a ton of new content (and a new boss) to this hit game. And new music from me. Owners of the game on any platform can download this update for free. More news on this game and its music soon!

It was announced that I’ll be composing music for the amazing Mecha action game M.A.S.S Builder! I can’t say a lot yet but get ready for some cool stuff.

I also worked a little bit on the newly announced River City Girls, coming from WayForward and Arc System Works!

Here’s a list of what I’ve been working on. Well, the ones I can share right now. Several more to be added very soon!

It's-a me!

No, really!

I had the honor of writing a new jingle/logo, theme song, and music bed for Nintendo’s Nintendo Minute video series, which you can find on Nintendo’s YouTube, Twitter, and Facebook feeds as well as right on your Nintendo Switch.

You can see and hear a lot of my work in this latest video and all of the videos they’ll release from now. Listeners with sharp ears will hear several musical Easter eggs I hid in the music. Two of those are fairly prominent in this first video!
